Overview
Tonmya is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of fibromyalgia in adults. Tonmya is also known by its drug name, cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride.

Tonmya belongs to a class of drugs known as tricyclic muscle relaxants. It is thought to work by affecting neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) in the brain that influence pain perception and sleep quality.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Tonmya is taken as a sublingual (under the tongue) tablet once daily at bedtime. The recommended starting dose for the first 14 days is typically one tablet at bedtime, after which the dose is doubled on Day 15. It’s recommended that one moisten their mouth with sips of water before use , and one should not swallow, cut, crush, or chew the tablets. The drug should be taken exactly as prescribed by a healthcare provider.

Side effects
Common side effects of Tonmya include oral hypoesthesia (reduced sense of touch or sensation in the mouth), oral discomfort, abnormal product taste, somnolence (sleepiness), oral paresthesia (tingling in the mouth), oral pain, fatigue, dry mouth, and aphthous ulcer (mouth sores).

Rare but serious side effects may include serotonin syndrome (a potentially life-threatening condition caused by excessive levels of serotonin), arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke, seizures, serious central nervous system (CNS) reactions, urinary retention, angle-closure glaucoma (a type of eye condition), increased intraocular pressure (eye pressure), and oral mucosal reactions. The drug can also cause CNS depression, which may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. The drug may also cause embryofetal toxicity (harm to an unborn child, including potential birth defects) if taken during early pregnancy.
