Heart palpitations and a racing heart are something many people with fibromyalgia report, and you're definitely not alone in noticing this pattern. The nervous system in fibromyalgia is already in a heightened state, which can make the body react more intensely to pain, stress, and anxiety-inducing situations like doctor's appointments.

Here are some common triggers that MyFibroTeam members have linked to these kinds of symptoms:

- Anticipatory anxiety β€” even just thinking about a medical appointment can set off a stress response
- Pain spikes β€” increased pain intensity can activate the body's fight-or-flight response
- Flare onset β€” the body ramping up before or during a flare can cause physical symptoms beyond just pain

It's always worth mentioning heart palpitations to your doctor, especially if they're frequent or feel severe, just to rule out anything that needs attention.

In the meantime, some things that may help calm the nervous system include slow, deep breathing (inhale for a count of three, exhale slowly), reducing stimulants like caffeine, and keeping your environment calm and low-stress where possible.

You're not imagining it β€” fibromyalgia affects the whole body, not just the pain points! πŸ’™

Just read that's fibromyalgia is also is known to effect a person's automatic nervous system which controls blood pressure, heart rate and many more things. Ask your practitioner to explain it and what you might be able to do to keep it stable. I have had issues with it myself. I am hoping things go well for you. I get it, when you are feeling this way it's difficult. Just try to take things slowly. Remember to breathe easy. You can get through it πŸ’ŸπŸ’ŸπŸ’Ÿ
