I have an iritis flareup 2-3x a year. I had a dr explain it to me as arthritis of the eye. It's painful. Light makes the pain worse. I get little zigzag squigglies right before the main flareup. Another dr said it was an optical migraine. Whatever it is I know it hurts and is miserable!

I get uvitis. An arthritic condition of the eye. The first time I got it I was in Williamsburg, Va. I had a jacket over my face because the light burned my eyes. It is horribly painful. Best of luck to you.

For me it is connected to having ankylosing spondylitis. It used to be that you would not get that diagnosis unless you had an x ray or MRI that showed clear damage. However, these days the diagnosis has expanded to include people who have a history of certain symptoms (plus exam, labs, etc) and it is called axial spondyloarthritis. While the medical community is moving toward this term not everyone is up to date which of course is understandable, including doctors.

The reason I just info-dumped right there lol is because I always get a little concerned that someone may have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia when they have axial spondyloarthritis or another type of inflammatory arthritis such as RA or PsA. Or both fibromyalgia *and* AS.
