Members responded overwhelmingly to the question about whether fibromyalgia affects mental health, confirming that anxiety and depression are common companions to the condition, with many sharing that the unpredictability of symptoms and chronic pain naturally intensifies pre-existing mental health challenges like OCD, ADHD, and BPD. Several members described how fibromyalgia seems to amplify the brain's fight-or-flight response, leading to heightened anxiety, panic attacks, and severe brain fog, while others noted that some people develop mental health issues for the first time as a direct consequence of living with fibromyalgia. A recurring theme was the difficulty of separating what symptoms belong to which condition, the validation that comes from having diagnoses recognized as real by the community, and the importance of advocating for proper medication adjustments and mental health support.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I am diagnosed with BPD. And fibromyalgia. I honestly think it is possible that the conditions coexist if you will. I am reading a book about borderline personality disorder and the author does an excellent job explaining how the brain works and how someone with bpd behaves. It makes sense because both diagnoses mention trauma. I think there’s more to come with research. Your brain is the “operator” of your body. You are beautiful inside and out no matter what conditions you have. ❤️

I have come across this ,
for me it's the 'made up mis-label ' delivery that's not acceptable wether meaning well or not. We face this on a daily basis with fibro and it hurts so much so I totally get it .This should be a safe space to share our diagnosis's,
sending love to you all 💜

@A MyFibroTeam Member It's terrible that you have had to wait so long for an appointment to update your medication! At least it's coming up soon, now. I would love to tell you anything that you would like to know about my mental health. I have already told a lot of things to @A MyFibroTeam Member. I can dig up the name of the post that we're talking in, if you'd like, so that you can read it too. I am sort of thinking of creating a throw-away email that I don't care about very much if it gets to spam riddled. I could provide that email here so that anyone I would like to talk with privately can send their email address there and I can reply from my real email address. Still thinking on that.
