Have others been diagnosed with both fibromyalgia and hypermobility?

Yes, it's not uncommon for people to have both fibromyalgia and hypermobility. Your rheumatologist noticing you're "extra bendy" alongside confirming fibromyalgia shows they're looking at the full picture of your symptoms. These conditions can occur together, and having hypermobility may contribute to joint pain and other symptoms you're experiencing.

Why would your doctor suggest sleep apnea testing?

Sleep apnea is one of several sleep disorders that commonly overlap with fibromyalgia. It's a breathing disorder where your airway collapses during sleep, causing loud snoring, pauses in breathing, and drops in oxygen levels.

Sleep problems affect at least 9 in 10 people with fibromyalgia, and addressing sleep disorders can make a significant difference. One MyFibroTeam member shared: "I was waking up every three hours and getting just 20 minutes of deep sleep. After being diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea, I now sleep eight hours a night. I feel great, have energy, and no pain, headache, or tiredness."

If you're experiencing poor sleep, frequent waking, or daytime fatigue, testing for sleep apnea is definitely worth pursuing with your GP.

It's typical to be hypermobile... after agreeing with my Dx of ME/CFS for my young nephew, his Doc instead wrote "Poly-Articular-Arthralgia" to avoid 'stigma', and allow him to access support at school with a Medical Dx.
