I’m feeling anxious & stressed cuz my hands hurt so bad. It hurts to move them, can spread fingers much. Also, went to an orthopedic doctor and he suggested I get an EMG test. My mind goes to MG and ALS. Another thing, going to c bro/sis in law(visit tonite) watch nephews w/ hubby tomorrow/ night. I’ll be anxious to get home on Sunday. There staying in the city. Have two days two days to rest then going ti c family in Florida (2/4-2/11). Its hard but I’m leaving it in Gods hands!

Members offered encouragement and practical suggestions for managing sudden hand pain before upcoming travel, with many sharing their own experiences of similar symptoms being diagnosed as conditions like pseudogout, rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis through blood tests and X-rays. Several members recommended immediate relief strategies including paraffin wax baths, compression or fingerless gloves, heating pads, topical creams like hemp salve or Icy Hot, and soaking hands in hot water to ease pain and stiffness. A recurring theme was frustration with insurance coverage for the EMG test, with advice to have the doctor's office handle pre-authorization, alongside warm reassurance to pace activities during family visits and trust in faith while navigating the uncertainty.

Reading this question just reminded me I forgot all about it. I have arthritis in my hands and noticed my joints have gotten more bigger last couple months. Any way it's a wax machine big enough for your hands. Once the wax has melted put your hands in for a few minutes or as long as you like. Once you take your hands out, they stay warm for a while. Peel the wax off and put it back in machine for next time.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Sometimes, they have the cream at stores like Walmart or a pharmacy. Can you make a trip beforehand or pick some up when you get to Florida?

I hope that you get some answers about what's going on with your hands and some pain relief. I have Osteoarthritis in my hands, and the Rheumatologist was able to confirm through an X-ray. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to cover the EMG test with insurance. Sometimes, I have to call the insurance company to see if the test is covered. It sounds like you already have.

Did your doctor's office send insurance the code and clear it all up?

Doctor's test for RA through ANAs and the RA antibodies. And order X-rays to see what's going on visibly.
I hope you have a lovely time with family these next few weeks despite hand pain. I often have to take pain relief medicine and use compression gloves also. I hope you find something that works and brings some relief.
