Does Anyone Else Go Crazy When Digital Alarms, Phones, Dryers, Etc., Go Off?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My Freestyle Libre goes off when my blood sugar gets too high or low. It has an alarm sound but it doesn't stop. It takes time for my sugar to get back up and the #@#$ thing doesn't stop. The same if my sugar is high and I need to take insulin. Insulin needs time to work but the damn alarm keeps going off. Today, the alarm kept going on, while my phone was ringing, and the dryer alarm was going off. I almost had a complete meltdown. I don't know why this is bothering me so much but I am so tired… read more

Members connected over shared experiences of sensory overload from alarms and everyday sounds, with many describing stress responses, misophonia, or age-related hearing changes that make beeping appliances, ringing phones, and even barking dogs feel unbearable. Several members shared practical coping strategies, including muting phone ringers to feel only vibrations, turning off appliance alarms when possible, adjusting hearing aids for noisy environments, and simply closing devices early to avoid the final beep. A recurring theme was that stress amplifies sensitivity to noise, and for many, these struggles have worsened with age or underlying health challenges, met with understanding and encouragement from others who feel the same way.

I don't know about the freestyle Libre but as far as the cell phone, I mute the phone and just hear the vibrations and that helps me. Also, there's a knob on my dryer alarm and I can turn it to the off position.

You are so right about the liud tv. My husband wont get hearing aides either and sometimes when i am watching tv in my bedroom, the loudness of my hubby's tv downstairs comes tgrough the vents. Its not the dosages about my insulin but the alarm going off all the time. We keep trying to fine tune it but I'm what they call a brittle diabetic and very sensitive to insulin. Thanks for your comments!
