Members overwhelmingly confirmed that breathing problems are common with fibromyalgia, with many describing shortness of breath, dyspnea, and chest wall discomfort despite having normal oxygen levels and healthy lungs. Several members shared that anxiety and panic can worsen breathing difficulties, and others noted that their doctors initially dismissed their concerns until research showed dyspnea is a recognized fibromyalgia symptom unrelated to pulmonary function. A recurring theme was frustration with medical professionals who lack understanding of fibromyalgia, paired with practical coping strategies like taking slow breaths and advocating firmly for oneself during appointments.

Yes! Conclusions: Dyspnea is a common symptom in patients with FMS and is not explained by pulmonary causes, but may partly be due to chest wall discomfort and pain intensity.
