Heard About The New Covid Variant Called Omicron? And How Do Each Of You Stay Safe From Covid?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

It's out of South Africa and virologists do not yet know how transmisible it may be but flights are being cancelled, borders closed and hospitals (see attached link) are closing to elective and non-emergency procedures and issuing a preventative State of Emergencies.

I've been Phizer vaccinated 3 times (booster included) but still wear my mask and take precautions because even a "mild" illness with covid can plague us with chronic illness, ontop of fibro. I was just speaking with another… read more

What my family did was only vaccinated people we included. We all pretested before gatheting. Especial our grandson returning from college and those traveling. The home test kits are about $20. Will will follow the same routine for Christmas.
That is as safe as you can get.
My best friend got break through covid . She was fully vaccinated, but people around her did not wear masks. She felt bad for about two weeks, but is fine now.

All I did to check this out was to search it online so you all might find more. Copied/pasted

COVID-19Omicron variant: B.1.1.529
Variant B.1.1.529 was identified in November 2021 in Botswana and South Africa; one case had travelled to Hong Kong, one confirmed case was identified in Israel in a traveler returning from Malawi, along with two who returned from South Africa and one from Madagascar. It is known to have dramatic genetic differences from other variants.

As of Nov. 27, the variant had spread to Europe with cases detected in two people in the United Kingdom, two in Germany and at least one in Italy, according to health officials in their respective countries.

Public health officials are studying the new variant but its significance for the pandemic is not yet known. "Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant, as compared to other variants of concern," said the World Health Organization on Friday, Nov 26.

The US banned travelers from South Africa and seven nearby countries out of concern over the new variant.

I'm fully vaccinated including the booster. I go out masked and wash my hands frequently and make sure my grandsons do when they are with me.

I’ve had my 2 shots, waiting for my booster, I am still very scared catching the virus, not just because I have fibromyalgia, but one kidney and other health issues. I stay home, don’t go to social events, I go in and out of the grocery stores, always wiping my hands and everything else I touch. Family and friends know how I feel so they are understanding. I missed my life even though I keep busy at home with my 2 furry babies. Be safe and take care of yourselves💕

I have had 3 shots. My husband is now eligible to get the booster so he will get it, soon. We stay away from crowded indoor areas and thankfully our extended family is fully vaccinated so we can see them. Mostly we stay home. We wear masks if we have to go to the grocery or drug store. Here, if we go early in the morning on a weekday, there is hardly anyone there. Thanks to all for the info.. I did see that several companies are tweaking vaccines. From what I have seen so far, this new variant does not seem to be that bad, although it is very contagious..it seems that those who are unvaccinated are at highest risk.
