Members shared conflicting perspectives on whether fibromyalgia increases COVID-19 risk, with some citing their doctors' warnings about compromised immune systems while others clarified that fibromyalgia is neurological rather than autoimmune, though many with fibro do experience weakened immunity. Several members offered practical protective strategies including limiting public trips, batch-cooking meals to reduce errands, wearing masks and gloves, and being vigilant about hand hygiene and not touching surfaces or faces. A recurring theme was the lived experience that fibromyalgia makes any illness hit harder and last longer, with one member describing their frightening three-day bout with COVID-19 that left them exhausted and breathless, reinforcing the community's emphasis on taking extra precautions regardless of official risk classifications.

There are some other risks that I read about recently that may or may not apply: age, COPD, heart disease, smoking, diabetes, antipsychotic drug use, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, obesity. Wish I could remember all of them. If I come across the article again, I will post it on here. No matter what your risk, always act as if everyone around you could have Covid19. Take precautions, wash your hands alot, use hand sanitizer, do not touch your face. Try not to touch surfaces & objects that are commonly touched by others, wear rubber gloves & a mask if it makes you feel safer out in public. Limit your trips out in public as much as possible. That means modifications to your meals. Make up your favorite casseroles, soups, & stews, spaghetti, ham & beans, chili, etc, in large quantities so that you can eat on it for days or freeze part of it to eat later. Buy a Turkey, cook it, debone it & divide the meat in small freezer bags--freeze some & have some ready for Turkey sandwiches or turkey & noodles. Same with a big ham. I love ham sandwiches, omelets with ham, ham & eggs. Alot of people avoid buying those big meat items but you can make it work to eat on it for days, & not have to leave your house to keep going out for more food.

It's not an autoimmune disease, however, I have found that many with fibromyalgia do have a low immune system

Inflammation doesnt imply autoimmune. Just like Fibromyalgia isnt an arthritic disease. The research is out there that states Fibromyalgia isnt an autoimmune disease. It is neurogenic.

At this time, Fibromyalgia is NOT classified as an autoimmune disease. This article explains why in detail.
