Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis only affects the large bowel (colon and/or rectum), and inflammation is only in the surface layers of the bowel lining. It causes ulcers (tiny, open sores) to form in the lining of the bowel.

I have ulcerative colitis and my Mum has diverticulitis.
Diverticulosis occurs when small defects in the muscle of the wall of the large intestine or colon allow small pockets or pouches (diverticula) to form. Diverticulitis is infection or inflammation of these abnormal pouches. Together, these conditions are called diverticular disease.

Cold, damp days and drops in barometric pressure are widely associated with flare-ups in symptoms of the condition, which affects mostly women. In one study by the National Fibromyalgia Association, people with the condition ranked weather changes as one of the leading aggravating influences on pain and stiffness.
