Has anyone ever taken themselves in to mental health services as they are not coping?

I’m at that point now 😢

Members responded with overwhelming support to someone asking if they should seek mental health services, with many sharing that they have personally sought help through counselors, crisis teams, hospital admissions, or support groups and found it invaluable. Several members offered practical guidance, including asking a primary care doctor for referrals, calling crisis hotlines when feeling unsafe, trying a therapist for at least two sessions to find the right fit, and looking into NHS fibromyalgia support groups for peer connection and acceptance. A recurring theme was that seeking help requires courage and is nothing to be ashamed of, with members emphasizing that talking to professionals provides relief, safety, and practical coping strategies during the darkest moments of living with chronic illness.

Getting help is nothing to sneer at, snide at, or be embarrassed about.

I agree that the hardest part is admitting that you need help and then doing something about it. I had spoken to my daughter several times in the preceding months but she wasn't ready to listen. I am so thankful that she didn't struggle for too much longer.
It was lovely getting my daughter back😁

I would join a fibromyalgia support group if I could find a local one. My husband even said he would come with me😊 He has made huge steps in trying to understand and help me since January. Talking does help, even if he doesn't really want to hear me. He doesn't dismiss my symptoms or feelings any more.

I've not taken myself, but I woke up in a mental health facility after trying to kill myself. The facility is in a wonderful hospital and I loved it. 24 hr care from caring nurses, therapy and rest. I was diagnosed with PTSD, major depressive disorder and some other stuff. Bottom line is...if your asking about it, go.
And if you're thinking about hurting yourself, pick up the phone and call the Suicide Hotline NOW. Not tomorrow, not after you cook dinner, NOW! The longer you stay in the dark the more hopeless you feel. Sometimes you need to accept a little help to guide you to the light.
Love, beautiful healing light & the softest hugs to you my fibro sister 💜

I referred myself last year to our local counselling service. The only problem was that I had to wait 5 or 6 months by which time I was in a better place.
My daughter used the same service at the end of last year. She was diagnosed with GAD and worked with a counsellor to identify her triggers and to develop strategies to help. That, together with medication, helped enormously. She has now stopped both medication and therapy. She is not cured but she feels a lot more able to deal with life.
I have had a horrendous few days. Had to have to have a paramedic out and she said it was probably anxiety or panic attack. I will be self referring when I can get out of bed. I think I will need some kind of CBT.
What I am trying to say is 'GET Help please.
