Depression
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have found in the past 4 years that the fibro has been having more flares and I have been also getting depressions for the first time in my life. How many have this as a part of the fibro

Depression is almost hand-in-hand with it for me. As soon as I feel bad physically, I start to feel bad emotionally, and vice versa. I think the mind-body connection is even stronger with this condition than with others. I feel stress physically almost immediately, which I did not used to. I have found counselling to be critical, as well as finding support (in places like this!), because living with a chronic illness is depressing. There is a vicious cycle you can find yourself in of illness, depression, then worsening illness because you can't take good care of yourself due to the depression. I have had to learn the signs of that cycle and take measures to avoid it. Sometimes that means medication, sometimes that means talking to people about it or seeing a counselor, sometimes a change in environment or lifestyle, or having a friend help you do the things you need to do for yourself. It's an on-going struggle...

Yes, I have severe manic depression, that goes along with the fibro disease also bipolar that gets in the way with depression. I am being treated for the bipolar and depression but it still doesn't make it go away. God bless you with a better day. P.J.L.
