Members shared their experiences applying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in the UK while managing chronic conditions and working, with several successfully receiving benefits for conditions including fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and ulcerative colitis, though many emphasized how challenging the application process can be. Several members offered practical guidance, including using the Benefits and Work PIP test website to understand the points system, focusing on frequency of symptoms rather than diagnosis, requesting assessment reports if denied to challenge decisions through mandatory reconsideration, and providing medical evidence since assessors don't contact healthcare providers directly. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of the process, with members describing the forms as depressing to complete, tribunal experiences as traumatizing, and the difficulty of articulating limitations like walking with constant pain when cultural conditioning encourages putting one's best foot forward, yet the community offered mutual encouragement to keep trying despite these systemic barriers.

Pip isn't based on diagnosis but how your daily activities are affected by the illness. It is split into self care and mobility components and you get awarded points in each category. If you get enough points you get awarded it. The main thing they look at is frequency so how often does that happen? If it happens more often than not you will get awarded pip. It is hard to get. Good luck

The mobility component is very hard to get but that's one half. You can get it on self care so this is about cooking, toileting, dressing etc. There is a website which helps to fill in the form by going through the points on the questions. I'll try to remember what it is called.
