Just wondering if anyone finds themselves really down after a couple of days of bad pain and awful sleep. I don’t know if this is normal or if it is my depression flaring. Chicken or egg

Members opened up about the difficult connection between chronic pain, sleeplessness, and depression, with many agreeing that poor sleep and unmanaged pain create a vicious cycle that worsens mood, increases irritability, and can lead to feelings of loneliness and despair. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them cope, including daily naps, meditation and hypnosis apps like Insight Timer and YouTube, medical marijuana or CBD gummies for pain relief, gentle walking or stretching, and homemade ginger-cinnamon tea during flare-ups. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion and acceptance, with many emphasizing that listening to your body, allowing rest without guilt, and planning around good days rather than fighting through bad ones are essential for managing both the physical and emotional toll of chronic illness.

One can never say as depression can get you any time month /day /hour so I find it hard to tell .what I do know is when I have not had a good night sleep for a couple of days and nights ,I am very miserable and not easy to be around in the company of anyone ,as Anna says lack of sleep and pain .

Is it any wonder we all feel so down after pain and poor sleep. We have to accept that when our body says it’s time to rest we have very little choice but to do so. It isn’t simply tiredness that stops us in our tracks. It’s complete fatigue. There’s a huge difference in the two. I have accepted this is how it is and if I have to write off a day or two to recover then that’s what I have to do. I plan what my things to do list is going to be on the good day. X

Lack of sleep effects my mood. I become more and easily agitated. I do .y best to work on it and not take it put on those around me. I also have started stretching and walking daily. I find walking helps keep my mood up and better.

Very normal. Without sleep we're bound to feel worse. Pain, irritable or depressed come with lack of sleep. I need a nap daily. I may be called lazy, however I know that I'm not, just taking care of myself.

I know for me it helps to just accept that my body will sometimes let me down. Rather than trying to fight it, I just allow my body to dictate my day. I found in the past when I would try to fight through the pain and I tried to ignore my body and just push through, I was frustrated, depressed, crying, and felt horrible. Now I just allow space for my body to be what it will be and I accept the fact that I have a chronic illness.
