Pregnancy And Having Children
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

What has peoples experiences been like being pregnant and having Fibro? Also how do you manage parenting? I'm seriously doubting having children due to wondering if i will be able to handle it and also concerned that i will pass fibro on to my child since it can be genetic. Also did you have to come off all your meds while pregnant? Would love to hear of peoples experiences. Thanks

Hello Bethany
I’ve got teenagers a boy and a girl and that is hard enough if I had to have younger children now I don’t think I could do it unless the partner was 100% looking after the child’s needs like playing and bending down I can’t do that and it does effect the children like why can’t you play with me it breaks your heart that you can’t do those sorts of things but that is me as my fibromyalgia is pretty bad lower back hips knees ankles it’s hard to bend down and if you do get down it’s just as hard getting back up.

Personally having children is hard work no matter what age they are and really it's about what support do you have around you to help? I have 4 children, although not diagnosed with fibromyalgia until 2 years ago I have had symptoms from being a child. I have only recently been on meds since diagnosis.

However I lost 4 children during pregnancy and whether this was related to the fibro. I don't know. I was treated for an autoimmune disorder during the later pregnancies, not that it made any difference and the only way I got through this time was having a supportive family.

Now I work part-time to manage the illness and family life. Generally we manage on day to day basis. Meals, housework are simple things. I am easy on myself and my husband helps me when I need him.

Thanks so much for the responses! Its so helpful! For those that had their fibro symptoms go during pregnancy, how long after giving birth did the symptoms come back?
I'm 33 and my partner also has fibro. 😭 We struggle sometimes to look after ourselves during winter let alone adding a baby/child to the mix. We dont have family support either. It has always been my dream to have children but lately it just worries me that we wouldnt be able to handle it and how unfair would it be to bring a baby into the world with two sick parents. I'm really feeling torn between what we want and practically what we could actually cope with.
