Itching Starts At Night

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Springfield, IL

Has anyone else (with skin sensitivities) noticed that their itching gets worse at night time? I hardly itch at all in the daytime but by 9pm, it starts and by 11pm it is really aggravating and by 1am, it is simply maddening. I've talked to one other person who has the same exact problem. I'm trying to find out why it gets worse at night.

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that nighttime itching is a shared and frustrating experience, with many describing how discomfort intensifies as the evening progresses, often making sleep nearly impossible. Several members shared practical strategies that brought relief, including switching to fragrance-free and dye-free laundry detergents, reducing shower frequency in favor of sponge baths, using rich body butters immediately after toweling off, taking Epsom salt baths, investing in bamboo sheets and lightweight pajamas, applying hyaluronic acid before moisturizers, and using products like Vanicream, CeraVe, DHC night cream, goat milk soap, and daily antihistamines like Claritin or Hydroxyzine. A recurring theme was that fibromyalgia-related nerve dysfunction may trigger these sensations, that aging and dry skin worsen the problem, and that persistent trial and error with skincare routines, along with community support and shared wisdom, are essential for finding what works for each individual body.

Yes mine always gets worse at night, not sure if its cos my body gets hot in bed or whether its just a random thing. I find a cold flannel on my itchy skin helps.
