Has Anyone Else Had A Positive Rheumatoid Factor?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I tested positive and the test shows that my rheumatoid factor is 18.9 which is higher than the standard but doesn’t seem exceptionally high compared to others numbers that I’ve read online. Waiting for my appointment with the dr to go over my results but wanted to check in here to see if others have had this.

@A MyFibroTeam Member It is a blood test that shows if you have high levels of rheumatoid factor in your blood which is associated with autoimmune diseases often rheumatoid arthritis. Can also be associated with other conditions such as chronic infections and cancer.

I guess I have PMR. I am in so much pain when I wake up, the longer I lay in bed, the worse I feel. My muscles are so tight, I hate when its time to go to bed. I would rather sleep sitting up

It is diagnosed by blood work - in my case it was a high sed. rate and my c-reactive protein was so high it was off the chart. If it is not controlled (Prednisone is what you have to take for it), it can run into temporal arteritis which can cause permanent blindness. The symptoms are very similar to Fibro -tired, fatigued, aching all over. Polymyalgia Rheumatica is also referred to as PMR. Mayo Clinic has a good article about it:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/...
Basically (copied from the Mayo site: "Polymyalgia rheumatica is an inflammatory disorder that causes muscle pain and stiffness, especially in the shoulders. Signs and symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica (pol-e-my-AL-juh rue-MAT-ih-kuh) usually begin quickly and are worse in the morning.

Most people who develop polymyalgia rheumatica are older than 65. It rarely affects people under 50."

A lot of my friends on this site either have or have had PMR.
