Smells

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone either get a heightened sense of smell or phantom smells which aren't there.

Sometimes I can smell like a burning type of smell yet no one else can smell it or something smelly. Got this odd smell only in my room and can't seem to figure out what it is. I tried perfumes, sprays and flowers and it persists, even tried to find the smell, but can't seem to pin point it and no one else can even smell it.

Members shared widespread experiences of heightened smell sensitivity and phantom odors that others cannot detect, with many describing intense reactions to perfumes, burning smells, or everyday scents like tap water that suddenly smell like chemicals. Several members noted that all their senses seem amplified, including hearing and vision, with noise sensitivity being particularly overwhelming and some finding relief only by eliminating sounds like television or music. A recurring theme was the relief of discovering they were not alone or losing their minds, as this symptom had left many feeling embarrassed or questioning their sanity before connecting it to fibromyalgia and understanding it as part of how the condition affects nerve signaling.

All my senses seem to be heightened, I see very well in the dark and hear things before my mom does, I know when someone is at the gate without checking. It's like I am a superhero with senses lol.

@A MyFibroTeam Member My noise sensitivity goes from not being able to hear much to hearing every noise in the area. So my TV volume is never consistent.

I’m not sensitive to smells but noise is awful, like if the Telly is up and my little grand daughter is playing it just gets too much for me I feel like my head is going to explode so I turn the Telly off, I was never ever like this as I use to have the music on when I was cleaning, but can’t do much of that either 😢😢 I really hate this illness 🥰🥰
