Is it really Fibromyalgia? What conditions mimic it? How do you get tested for it?
Some medication side effects do (such as cymbalta aka duloxetine) In my opinion. I went off all medications so I can deal with only symptoms of whatever is going on with me. I'm curious as to what each of you experience as symptoms of Fibromyalgia, what led to your diagnosis and what triggered the symptoms in the very beginning, and what other conditions you have.
I want to find a cure. What if it is a simple… read more
There are many things that effect your body when you have fibro and it isn't the same for everyone. Food, weather, stress, activity all play a role. I had to slowly change things to see what helped and what didn't. I do not eat sugar only natural sugar in fruit, etc. I changed my diet to mostly eating natural foods. I try to do stretching exercises daily which help. I cannot of course control the weather,, so I have to adjust for that. Controlling stress is very important. I do deep breathing and yoga for fibro. It is mostly trial and error because we are all different and what works for one person may not work for you. So good luck finding solutions for you. It isn't a quick fix by any means and sometimes it will get better, then come back with a vengeance! I also have regular massage and acupuncture which both help me.
@A MyFibroTeam Member There are quite a lot of illnesses that mimics the symptoms of fibro: jaw problems, multiple chemical sensitivity, lupus, Lyme disease, interstitial cystitis, polymyalgia rheumatica, sleep apnea, multiple sclerosis, pernicious anemia, type 2 diabetes just to name a few. Now these illnesses are also associated with some people who have fibro. If you go to a physiatrist/integrative medicine doctor , they would be able to send you have these tested or send you to the appropriate doctors who can.
I'll get a rheumatologist. I'm surprised I haven't seen one yet. Maybe I have and I don't remember. My memory is bad! Thank you for the info!!!! Hugs.
They have discovered swollen cells in the brain. Check into it. Harvard university is doing studies.
I’m no expert! But I’ve been doing some research on Epstein Barr virus and inflammation in the brain. The virus is known to have many variations and can cause a lot of symptoms that I’ve encountered. But the mystery continues........until there’s a difinitive test etc.
I read a journal article from Iran claiming that they had good results curing fibro with many sessions in a hyperbaric chamber. Surprisingly, my insurance said they will cover it. But idk, I feel like a guinea pig already, lol. I’ll keep everyone posted.
I start Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in January for severe medication resistant depression. My insurance also pays for this new technology. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Hope you can find the right doctor to help you!
