I Have A Job Working With Special Needs Children At A Public School. Lately I Have Been Falling
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a job working with special needs children at a public school. Lately i have been falling, having convulsions, and some other things that are going on. I wanted to ask are there jobs that seem to work well for you? I don’t want to end my job but I’m starting to feel that this job isn’t the job for me. Thoughts please?

I was working in an early childhood centre and am a qualified teacher. I had to give it up when i was diagnosed. I was devastated. I didnt think i would ever be able to work with children again.
But I now work with children age 3-5yrs who have special needs. The difference now though is I work as a play therapist with only 1 child at a time. The parent is always with the child (sometimes my job involves teaching parents how to play with children) which means i dont have to do lifting etc as the parent does all that. I love my job and am so thankfull that i have really supportive work collgeues. Find a job that you enjoy doing cos it makes it easier (on those days when you're body is screaming at you) when you actually enjoy your work and have good work collegues.

I do the same job as you! The convulsions can be a scary thing for the kids and for you. I'm sorry. You can work in the office and paperwork side of things. For example a case manager. It's still a related job but you're helping the kids indirectly rather than directly. I know how much you want to help the kids. I'm the same way. Had to quit working with one student I absolutely loved because he was aggressive and my fibro had me weak to the point where he was stronger than me somedays. Adding you to my team btw!
