Hi @A MyFibroTeam Member Most doctors will tell you that with back MRIs it doesn't matter that you are laying down, but I have read in some European studies that compression of the bones of the spine (vertabrae) is much easier to see when a person is standing up, which is really when we have most pain. Fibro+gravity= worse pain. I have spinal stenosis that hardly shows on the MRIs, but after I have been up all day I limp and drag my left leg and walk stooped over and my hip gives out, this does not happen in the morning. The more I walk and lift during the day the worse it becomes at night. Unfortunately, there are not many places that will do MRIs in a standing position, it is not practical and would be difficult to stay still standing for that long. Just know that just because your scans are "normal", it does not mean there is not a mechanical problem that does not show up. The MRI does rule out other problems though, like compression that would require immediate surgery or fractures- the really obvious things.
I get pain in Ⓜ️ back between my upper spine and shoulder blade. I have a muscle knotted up there and I've had it for well over 20 years. When it is agitated, all of my ribs and back, sternum and collar bones ache. It is a referred pain. I have that in various parts of my body; I can press on one area and feel the pain somewhere else in my body. A totally unrelated area but everything is connected by our CNS. I swear its like a bad wiring job, LOL.
I had feelings like a mack truck ran me over, also my memory and concentration (known as fibro fog) is horrible. I do have alot of shoulder, back and knee pain. For the past 8 weeks I have struggled with a sprain ankle that I keep reinjuring. I am back on the walker now. 😣
Fibromyalgia does get worse over time. I've been in flare up for about 5months. Last year wasn't to bad, I got breaks, this year its worse
