Polymyalgia
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My mum has recently been diagnosed with Polymyalgia. As I was when I got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia... she is clueless, all I know is a lot of what she describes is very similar if not the same as fibro.
I was wondering if anyone knows the difference & if there's any advice and/or support for her like this?

right just google it the word myalgia means pain within the muscles. Both fibromyalgia and polymyalgia are characterized by muscle pain, but many other aspects of the two conditions differ. Polymyalgia, or polymyalgia rheumatica, is an inflammatory disease of muscle …… Fibromyalgia is not an inflammatory condition hope this help you .

Poly meaning multiple and myalgia meaning muscle pain. Literal definition. Is there another word attached? Like rheumatica? A second word can mean they know the cause. If no second word, could just be time frame. Fibro is unexplained pain for more than 3 months.

after reading up on it they both sound the same to me. I have been diagnosed with diabetic polyneuropathy which encompasses it all. Plus i have to possibility of losing all my mobility due to muscle deterioration. I get close some days. Sometimes I dont know whats worse. The fatigue or the pain, which I dont know which one is causing the pain since it comes with everything I have been diagnosed with.

@A MyFibroTeam Member thank you, and yes very helpful... glad to know that people can recover from Polymyalgia... I hope & pray that will be the case for my mum, even though she's been suffering since April when she was hospitalised with her symptoms!

After a Dr. appointment yesterday her Polymyalgia has been coupled with Rheumatica.. @A MyFibroTeam Member

Her Dr has put her on a medication to help with her bone density!

Thank you x
