Have you had to change jobs because of fibromyalgia and how did you go about finding/choosing something else?

I am a qualified Early Childhood Teacher. Working in a preschool environment eith 30+ children was stressful and loud. When i first got diagnosed my Dr told me I needed to take a long term break from working and that i should consider changing my career. I was so disappointed. I took about 6 months off then started cleaning a few hours a week. I now work as a play therapist which means i get to work 1-to-1 with a child so its not so loud or stressful. Im very happy since i get to work with children still. I do this 12 hours a week as well as 6 hours working in an office and 3 hours paperwork at home. I do 6 hour days (3 days total) and have a rest day in between. Rest most Tuesdays (do paperwork at home)and Thursdays. I manage doing this most of the time but really struggle to manage it during winter. My workplace and management are amazing at helping me manage my health and thankfully allowed me to slowly work up my hours to get to where i am now (over a 6 month period), been on 23 hours a week total for 2 years now. I would not be able to manage if i didn't have a supportive work environment.

Originally I got hurt at work so I was off awaiting surgeries. WSIB gave me such a hard time cause the surgeries weren’t successful that I believe that’s what brought on the fibro! They sent me back to school to retrain me for another job but that didn’t work out with all my pain so I’ve never returned to work! I have now been off for fourteen years and collect WSIB plus CPP Disability! Yes you can collect both and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t! We all need to help each other out with what we know for help financially, physically and emotionally about not being able to continue to work!! Good luck whatever you decide!!

I live in Australia we probably have different work requirements here....however I was an assistant manager in a school uniform store, I got to the point that standing up all day and dealing with school children which required a lot of bending got too much for me....so l ended up with a part time clerical job in an an office, I was able to stick with that for 3 years. Now I’m on a disability pension.....I pray your settling in, in your new life and starting to feel a little better love and prayers coming your way 💕💞🙏🙏🙏💕💞

When I was first diagnosed in 2013 it got so bad that I had to leave my job for 7 months just to cope with the symptoms. I then started going back to work doing small jobs that weren't too stressful.

Last year I had an intense job which was 12 to 16 hour days including weekends. After 7 months it almost killed me. I've started a new job in May as a Training Programme Administrator. It's challenging in a good way and mostly behinds the desk. Very little overtime required and a supportive team.

Even though my symptoms flare up because of the cold currently in Cape Town. I'm able to cope okay at the moment. Insomnia and digestive issues are bothering me most and pain and fatigue in the morning.
