Recently went on vacation and I felt better then I have in a long time. Once I was home I was in pain right away.
High altitude and Fibromyalgia
Evidently migraine meds increase blood flow, and blood flow increases oxygen. Evidently, a large portion of our Fibro pains are caused by lack of oxygen. Evidently high altitude and Fibromyalgia don’t mix well.
Higher Altitude= Less Oxygen = Higher Anxiety
Higher Altitude= Less Oxygen = More Pain = Higher Anxiety = Tension = More Pain…. it’s a vicious cycle.
There are even some theories I’ve read that say that poorly metabolized oxygen is the root cause of Fibromyalgia.
The Role of Oxygen in Fibromyalgia
Those living with Fibromyalgia may feel better in lower altitudes.
This is the reason why exercise may help improve Fibromyalgia symptoms – because it helps improve oxygenation in the body.

I know it plays a part in my glucise control living in Colorado for 6 months was a glucose control nightmare. Visiting every few years is its own challange n inhave to plan on out of norm numbers while there.
Pain wise no differnace that i was aware of during our last visit.
I currently live in Colorado and I can say yes it does affect my fibromyalgia! Especially if I go even higher in the mountains. My hubby and I have went up to Rocky Mountain national park and I had a flare after returning to our “norm” elevation!
