I’m hoping someone can shed some light or comfort for what I’m experiencing. So for over a year I had stomach inflammation, as in it hurts and hurts when you push on it. Last January I had a endoscopy done that showed mild gastritis and hiatial hernia. Biopsies were negative. I was prescribed some medications and was weaned off since I felt fine. So come earlier this year I was struggling with constipation, and in February I started having horrible heartburn, burping, gassy, lump in throat… read more

Members rallied around someone experiencing stomach inflammation and GERD symptoms, sharing their own journeys with gastritis, hiatal hernias, and Barrett's Esophagus, emphasizing that while these conditions often require lifelong management with medications like Prilosec, Prevacid, Dexilant, or Zantac, they can be controlled effectively with the right treatment plan. Several members offered practical advice, including getting checked for gallbladder issues or ulcers if abdominal tenderness persists, sleeping with the upper body elevated to reduce nighttime symptoms, and being assertively honest with doctors about pain levels and anxiety to ensure thorough testing and appropriate care. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, trusting your medical team while also pushing for answers, and finding comfort in knowing that others understand the physical and emotional toll of living with chronic digestive conditions.

I have a hiatal hernia that has been repaired. Dr. told me I will still be on prilosec or someting along that line. I had a reaction to the prilosec after taking it for about 5 yrs so I cant take anything along that line. I am taking zantac now. You never really get rid of the gastritis just control it. I had an attack of gastritis and pancreatitis that put me in the hospital 4 yrs ago. thats when i found out it never goes away, just controlled with meds. If you are offered repair for the hernia, go for it. It helped me alot.

You need to maybe have a little freak out in this docs office. As chicks and sick people we tend to minimize how we feel. Let him see your anxiety and how scared you are...be traffic w you pain and what not. These poor docs deal w drama queens all day. You need to prove your case. E prepared w a list of questions and tests you want done. Trust me he will appreciate having a patient who gives a shit and does their research. Good luck and feel better. fight for yourself!
