Vision Problems After Images And Visual Trailing
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

At night I get visual trailing where if I wave my hand over a dark surface I see the trail of my hand- like several copies that follow it. It happens with lights and is horrible when driving. I also will see after images of things especially in high contrast. If I go to the movies and look from the screen to the wall I'll see the image briefly that was on the screen. Does anyone else have this? My eyes have been checked and were fine and my neuro says it's probably related to migraines… read more

Eye pain on moving the eyes

Frequent eye glass changes

All of the above can occur with or without the most common medications given for FM, but ... they tend to become worse in many cases, due to the medications we are commonly given.

Did you know that the eye has six main muscles to control its movement? I certainly didn’t. And because fibromyalgia affects our nervous system, it stands to reason that it will affect our eyes and vision as well.

The nervous system deteriorates in FM patients, so the nerves to our eyes can deteriorate and cause problems. It’s a good idea to get your eyes checked each year. My eyesight seems to keep changing, so I need to keep updating my prescription.

I now suffer night blindness so i cant drive at night, im super sensitive to oncoming headlights and on unlit roads i am lost and cant even make out the road direction. This all started a couple of years ago. I cant drive now due to medication and sleep apnea but my driving deteriated as well. My vision blurrs when im fatigued so i just shut my eyes. I cant read books at all now as it fatigues me too much. I cant focus on the words and even my kindle with text size increased to max i still get fatigued. I hope this helps.

I knew that Fibro affected the eyes but I didn't know it was to that extent. This explains the majority of the problems that I have with my eyes.

If you're on an anticonvulsant may be the problem. I had the same thing when I took them. It was really weird to see my blur into many hands, but stopped when I medications. Eye doctor said my eyes where of also as I thought it might be a detached retina. It could be migraines but check side effects of your meds too. Hope it gets better for you.
