With fibro being so complex i find it so hard when someone asks what it is how to describe it?
i tell people it is like the worst flu that they have ever had. Then i tell them multiply that by 10 and have it 24/7. I also say i feel like i have been hit by a mack truck. Lol. A little overkill i know but some days i feel that bad. Most people have had the flu so they kind of understand that comparison. That only covers some of our symptoms but it makes them at least understand the pain and exhaustion. I hope this helps you explain it. Just remember that alot of people will never believe you no matter what you tell them. Hugs
I tell them it affects you from your head to your toes, from your skin to your skeleton. From taste and feeling sensitivities to intense muscle spasms and achy all over.
Hi, this is info I received from a pain clinic I attended: it helped me to understand the condition a bit more, and gave me reassurance it is real!
"Understanding of fibromyalgia remains limited, although research suggests that it is primarily a disorder of the central nervous system. Fibromyalgia may be referred to as a central sensitisation syndrome, resulting in pain amplification and other symptoms via a variety of pathways."

I tell them it is a neurological disorder that affects many systems which rely on our nervous system. If they are still interested I tell them how my nervous systems affects me by increasing my pain, fatigue, depression and anxiety.
@A MyFibroTeam Member. I am sorry that you were actually hit by a truck. I just say that i feel that way because i hurt so bad all over. Bad analogy.
