What Triggered Your Fibromyalgia?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm curious to know about specific events that triggered fibro for others, such as surgery or emotional traumas. This all started for me with cortisone injections.

I’ve learned thru Heart Surgery (July 2015) that I had Fibromyalgia, (most likely all my life, once I learned what it was, and why i always felt the way I did... thinking It was normal, knowing now that it’s not).... But the surgery itself flared it up to the point of me being bed ridden for most of last year (2017)... I was very emotional and angry.. feeling like an invalid as my health decreased so quickly over a 2-1/2 year period.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain, IBS, and Chronic Migraine/headaches... my nervous system was completely overloaded... and highly sensitive... the Brain Fog and light sensitivity were no fun either... All I could do was rest... even the slightest tasks were too much... a lot of days I couldn’t stand for even five minutes without needing to sit or ly down, or my knees would just buckle... it was horrible:(:( ... But living in a small town has its perks, :);) word got around and a friend brought a girl over that also suffers with chronic pain and other things (but that’s her story to tell:);)) what she brought with her changed my life in a hurry!! And I’m loving it!! Forever Grateful <3

She brought me some Medical Grade Water that originates from Japan called Kangen Water, (Kangen; Japanese for ‘Back to Origin’) a device created by Dr. Hiromi Shinya, who is one of the leading colon cancer doctors in the world... I absolutely love my new kitchen appliance<3

Their motto is ‘Change your water, change your life’ and for me, it has done just that!! <3<3<3 it has brought my flair down.. And I’ve been able to wean myself off all my medications after 2-1/2 months, and I’m back to my old self again!! Not cured, but moving and able to enjoy life once again!! I’m so grateful!! I’ve done a lot of research and I’m nothing but impressed!! It has helped so many, I encourage you to look into it and see if it’s right for you...<3 Lots of love <3<3<3

@A MyFibroTeam Member, reading your struggles with mental illness and the intense GI problems you've had, I can so relate. I was fortunate to be diagnosed early, though back in the 1990's little was known about fibromyalgia. It took me a long time to sort it all out, and with the mental illness (bipolar 2 like you), I was so very angry about it all. I lost everything except my possessions- career, friends, family, reputation, and a way to make a living. And my fiancee. And my health. It was back in 1993-1994.

Thank God, I learned to adapt and found a new life for myself. I still have many health problems, but I don't stress about them.anymore. I give God the credit for all of that.

I’ve always had mental heath problems. BPD, Depression, PTSD, Bipolar ll, I was struggling with ED at the time when I fell ill to a very intense stomach ache and constipation (sorry for the TMI) I couldn’t figure out what was going on!! I lost all appetite, I was dropping weight like crazy! .... my colonoscopy was fine, my endoscopy was fine- but my body syartimed aching!!!! I mean, ACHING!!! I kept saying “ something is wrong with my body”!! This past summer all of this was going on. I was always a healthy girl. I’m 27. I was 26 at the time. I went to dr to dr and everyone kept saying “you’re normal” you’re healthy” I had back pain, leg pain, headaches, neck pain, chest pain... an no answers- very frustrating. One day, one BEAUTIFUL day I saw an amazing Rheumatologist and he said “ you have Fibromyalgia “ I was soooo relieved that I finally had a diagnosis, I almost didn’t hear when he said...... it’s a lifelong condition- FML

I'm a recovering alcoholic & I noticed the symptoms start 10yrs ago when I quit drinking. I was alcohol dependent so I'm guessing that was the shock to my body that may have triggered fibro. I cared for my mother up until her passing 2yrs ago, which I have noticed my symptoms escalated due to the stress.

I believe my Fibro kicked in after an attempt at divorce in 2008, we got back together with the kids and all moved out of state away from any support system and hubby went ballistic with control and anger. I was a trapped fly in mason jar and BAM ! I found myself falling asleep staring at the yogurt selection in the grocery store, was so afraid I would crash my head on concrete and die in dairy aisle. All I could do was feel pain and sleep. So mine was emotional relationship related. But since I have hypothyroid / bi polar/ it hasn't ever left. It's a nasty scar of a 28 yr. relationship with Mr. Wonderful.
