Members connected over the challenge of diagnosing Sjögren's syndrome alongside fibromyalgia, with many confirming that it is possible to have Sjögren's with normal blood tests, particularly secondary or sicca Sjögren's, which is often diagnosed through symptoms like dry mouth and dry eyes rather than labs alone. Several members shared their experiences with severe dental problems, including chipping, crumbling, and tooth loss, with some reading that fibromyalgia can contribute to losing up to 12 teeth, while others emphasized the importance of working closely with both a rheumatologist and dentist to rule out overlapping conditions. A recurring theme was the frustration of seeking answers when tests come back normal, the long road to diagnosis, and the encouragement to advocate persistently for referrals to specialists who can properly assess complex, overlapping autoimmune and chronic pain conditions.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2008. Last week I tested positive for rheumatoid arthritis. Now I’m wondering if that’s what I’ve had all along.

My opinion is this whole mess is environmental. The water we drink, the food we eat, the air we breath. And some people are saying life expectancies are lower.

Of course how do we explain the people that thrive. I just keep praying that I can in some small way still contribute something during my life.🙏

I decided to stop looking for more answers regarding fibromyalgia or any additional ailment I might have. I was making myself even more disabled mentally to realise that help was not coming. That this pain only led to extra pain from not being as fit or capable as. I once was.
I haven’t been responding to myfibroteam for many months, trying to find some balance or solace somewhere. Paul and I have decided to buy into an over 55’s retirement village where we are currently building our final residence. Since making this decision I have found a peace of sorts and help when needed will be on site. 9am looking forward to something, for the first time in years!

Hi
i sympathise that you haven't got a diagnosis - it can take a very long time - mine took 10 years finally. Fibro doesn't have a blood test and although Sjogrens might have, it is more often diagnosed through dry mouth and dry eyes. My eyes were so dry that i got infections until I used replacement tears;and my saliva glands have an abnormality, hence the 'fake' saliva I use at night and thus Sjogrens.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Your general practitioner is not qualified to test you for fibromyalgia but they can refer you to rheumatologist to confirm if you have fibromyalgia. They can only give you suggestions and opinions about fibromyalgia. Advocate for yourself and don't stop because they are not qualified with your assessment. Your health and well-being is not about them, it is about you and what is best for YOU. Doctor are not taught about the endocannanoid system in medical school especially when it comes to specific illnesses. Fibromyalgia is all about the endocannanoid system and chronic illness.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I would try a different rheumatologist. Almost all of them will see Fibro patients. I’ve seen three different ones
