My doctor tried me on Amitriptyline but did not do well on it. He is sceptical to try other known meds for Fibro.

Members shared their medication journeys for fibromyalgia pain after one person's doctor hesitated to try alternatives beyond Amitriptyline, with Cymbalta and Gabapentin emerging as the most commonly tried options. Several members described cycling through multiple medications due to side effects like water retention with Lyrica, swelling with Gabapentin, and depression or anxiety with Cymbalta, though some found success with combinations like Cymbalta with low-dose naltrexone or Gabapentin with Flexeril. A recurring theme was the importance of keeping a detailed log of each medication's effects, communicating openly with doctors, and combining medication with heat therapy and gentle movement to manage stiffness and pain.

Neurontin (gabepentin) is one of the first meds that I took for pain. It helped me more than anything else. I have had fibro for 30 years and have back problems too. I am now on percocet. I took neurontin for several years until my knees started swelling. If you are on it, just be aware of side effects. I was on it 6 years before the swelling started. Good luck

I was first tried on gabapentin, which did decrease the number of flares to some degree. I still take it with cymbalta and Flexeril. I take a lot of other meds including anti-depressants, and pills for GERD and thyroid replacement. And Ambien for sleep. I'm a walking drugstore.
