Awhile ago I asked if Fibromyalgia was hereditary. Many of you think it is. Yesterday while visiting family my male cousin was telling me about his foot pain. I almost fell off of my chair! It started with extreme shooting pain in his 3rd toe on his right foot. (Just like me) Now it is up to his knee with a terrible burning sensation. (Again like me). Like any autoimmune ( which I truly believe fibromyalgia is an autoimmune ), they seem to run in families. Mostly on the female side. So people with fibromyalgia will have lupus, Raynuld’s, rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroid, etc. in their families somewhere. If not themselves. And if you have one autoimmune, you usually have another. I think the medical community is slowly coming around on this.

Yes, I have a cousin on my mom's side who also has fibromyalgia. She also has lupus and I have another cousin on the same side with lupus.
Mayo Clinic says that it does not appear to be handed down from parent to child; but does tend to "cluster" in family members! I googled it and came up with this, Patti!! You can get more information there!! It sounds like it could involve your cousin!! Gentle hugs,
My daughter was diagnosed with it six months ago & as I think about it, I think my mother had it. So yes, it is hereditary, no matter what anyone says!
I've been researching and I think our doctors don't know much about it.
