For the past year or so I have been trying to work with Amitriptyline for sleep, pain & anxiety. I have slowly increased to 40 mg. I'm wondering if anyone takes more than 40 mg with any benefit?

Members shared their experiences with different amitriptyline dosages for managing sleep, pain, and anxiety, with doses ranging from 50mg to 125mg nightly depending on individual needs and conditions like fibromyalgia and TMJ. Several members described common side effects including weight gain, dry mouth, and difficulty coordinating sleep schedules, while others mentioned challenges combining amitriptyline with other antidepressants or transitioning to alternative treatments like hemp oil. A recurring theme was the trial-and-error nature of finding the right dose and medication combination, with members emphasizing the importance of working closely with doctors to adjust treatment plans when symptoms aren't adequately controlled.

I am taking 50mg in the evening for sleep, and still have to work every day.
I personally am not happy taking so many chemical meds and have been doing research.
I have experienced weight gain which then makes it harder on the pain in my other joints.
So I did some research and spoke with my Dr's and I am slowly switching to food grade Hemp Oil. Legal in all 50 states no THC and has worked miracles with pain. I am in hopes of slowly backing off all my chemical meds eventually and being back to all or mostly natural

Thanks for answering! I too have dry mouth and have a plastic tumbler of water with me at all times. At least I know I'm drinking enough water. Are you able to work? I'm hoping that something could improve my functioning enough to get me back to work. Also, have you experienced any weight gain?

I'm on 75mg at night but think I need to see the doc to increase as I am not sleeping at the time I'm suppose to sleep. It is 5.19am now and I took my amitriptyline around 2.30am (only because I forgot to take them earlier), but they should have worked even a little bit by now but nope. But by 7am I will be ready to go to sleep as this was the same issue that I have been have for past week or more now, hubby is going nuts. But when I fall asleep at 7am that is me until (like today & yesterday for instance) I eventually woke up at around 3pm, by then it was too late to do anything even if I wanted to go to a fiends house. By the time I got myself woken up and pain reduced a bit to get dressed it would have been dinner time, so tonight I have decided I'm not going to go the bed at all and just hope that I can go to bed at a decent time tomorrow night.
