My cramps are absolutely debilitating and my mood gets so extremely low, sometimes to the point of suicidal thoughts. I'm usually calm and positive but during my period I feel very chemically imbalanced and in such a dark state of mind. It's always been this way for me, but I have had many months when I thought "wow, it's not so horrendous this time. This must be what it's supposed to feel like" ๐Ÿ˜‚ I know it's supposed to be a considerably painful and moody time but this isn't normal. I haveโ€ฆ read more

Members opened up about experiencing severe menstrual pain alongside fibromyalgia, with many sharing that their periods trigger full-body flares, debilitating cramps, extreme mood swings, and even suicidal thoughts due to what feels like a chemical imbalance. Several members shared practical strategies that helped them, including natural remedies like evening primrose oil and essential oils (ylang ylang, lavender, clary sage), pain management through tramadol combined with NSAIDs, dietary changes to reduce inflammation, checking iron and hormone levels, and acupuncture with supplements like Dong Quai. A recurring theme was that many ultimately found relief through hysterectomy after years of suffering, while others emphasized the importance of advocating for yourself with doctors, keeping detailed health records, and leaning on community support during the darkest days.

I used to have my period only every 3-4 months which to some is blessing but when I did have it I spent a week or more in bed with cramps, pain, bleeding (clots etc) miserable. as a teenager the dr just gave me donnatol, just to knock me out and help with cramps. With each child I hoped it would get better, I had horrible migraines too until I had my hysterectomy I 97" and of course the first went away but also my migraines all disappeared , so they told me they were all hormonal so maybe the dr can check your hormone level... Best of uck to you.

I'm 51 now, and my periods are quite irregular. But up until I was in about my late 30s every three months it would be horrible. But my moods made me more snappy. Worse. I live with my identical twin sister and our periods overlap. So every month, for about two days we seem to take offense easily and snap at each other. But at least by now, a small period, we will apologize. But me, it's a teensy bit longer. I don't know why, but I have to have some time to stew be upset! But I don't believe I've ever been considerably depressed over it. Ask your OBGYN if this is a side effect of the hormones. I think this is more of a gynecological problem not psychiatric. My opinion only, but what could it hurt? Make sure the Dr takes you seriously. If she doesn't know of doesn't think so, ask her to research it. They have access to things we can't, including other doctors. Don't let the doctor dismiss you. Write it all down and give it to (her) to put into the file. I'm fact write on top of the page FOR THE FILE OF... Making it clear this needs to be added and taken seriously. Sometimes things don't make it into the records. Also, he sure to make and keep a copy of it and write down what the Dr tells you! And KEEP IT. Put it in a file marked like ...HEALTH-GYN. Separate from any FMS.And if you don't hear back , say a week, call and inquire.Keep at it. Good luck! Be gentle to yourself
