How Do Others Cope With Loneliness?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm finding myself to feel very lonely and alone recently. The antidepressants help with the general sadness but not that feeling of always feeling so lonely. I don't have many friends anymore since this all began and my partner doesn't understand it at all, he's around less and less these days too. How does everyone cope with the loneliness that comes from chronic illness?

Hello what I find useful is reading the bible and find spiritual on what ever is bothering me. I also watch a movie that makes me laugh. I agree with everyone nobody feel the same way as someone else. But here on the group where all going through very similar situation. My suggestion is not to put some much focus on others. Use this time to learn about you. I know for me all of my focus was being someone's mother, daughter, girlfriend, woman, friends so I thought, and aunt. My point is I got so catch up in being everything for everybody that I dont know what I like, or want that has nothing to do with anybody else. So Im trying to findout who I am.

I agree at times you feel very lonely and yes you sit there and cry from time to time but my children keep me busy and I have a very good best friend although she tries she doesn't understand what I go through but I like the fact I keep it seperate as I don't want to dwell all my life and days on this illness as it can't quickly take over you if you let it so i try and keep as positive as possible, I work full time which is term time only but then rest and watch Netflix and chill with a glass of wine etc keep smiling xxx

I have my family and boyfriend who support me wonderfully but there are times that I feel very alone. The reason is they don't know what I go through. They see the pain but they can't feel it, thank God, they see I'm tired but they don't feel that either. There's a lot that goes with fibro and arthritis. They try but they can't, I know that. And even here nobody really knows what I go through and the same with me knowing about them. Don't get me wrong, I love this site and the people but we're all different. There's a lot of stuff I keep to myself. I read, watch tv, get on line, hang out with my dog, spend time with my mom, family and ol man. There's times I just lay on my bed when everything's quite and think about it all, sometimes I cry. I hope you find your things that keep you busy and going. Have a blessed day

I too am working on finding out who I am. It's taking awhile but most days I think I'm getting there.

It is challenging to make new friends. This year has been difficult for me. I pray about it I will talk to strangers I have meet a new lady I just ask if she would like to meet for coffee up the road and I go from there. Time will tell.

Just take each day as it comes. I do get lonely.
