Fibromyalgia Vs MS Misdiagnosed
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know some of you tend to question your diagnosis for fibromyalgia. My question is how many had an MRI done on their head to rule out MS because the symptoms are so over lapping only an MRI can diagnose the difference between the two?

@MargaretTretheway Since the vagus nerve is what controls the heart, lungs, and the digestive tract which is a nerve in the brain now when MS is present it creates lesions in the brain. If these lesions reach this nerve then all these major organs are now in serious danger.
he following is a list of symptoms that can be associated with posterior fossa involvement in MS; double vision, oscillopsia (jumping images), jerky eye movements, unsteady gait, incoordination, vertigo, tinnitus, deafness, hyperacusis, nausea, vomiting, hiccoughs, slurred speech, swallowing problems, choking, loss of taste, loss of sensation on the face or in the mouth, emotional incontinence or inappropriate crying or laughing and rarely hallucinations (pontine hallucinosis). More recently we have begun to identify cognitive impairment been linked to disease of the cerebellar hemispheres; typically MSers with severe cerebellar dysfunction have poor memory and the temporal sequencing of memories. When you talk to them they are come across as being very vague. As many fibre tracts pass through the brainstem weakness of the limbs, loss of sensation on the body, bowel, bladder and sexual problems can also occur from brainstem disease. It is clear that the brain stem is a very important structure and needs to be protected from the ravages of MS wherever possible."

Hi susieolivierlouw, I've had probs with constipation for quite a few years, and has progressively got worse to the point I was having regular trips to the hospital to have fleet enemas even though taking daily laxatives. But after seeing a lovely consultant who done all the tests to rule out nasty things, he explained to me that some people just naturally have a lazy bowel. Just happens mine is very lazy.

Please dont panic about this, we were just looking up correlations between fibro and MS. Just my over reactive mind! Diet, lack of fluids, medication and lack of exercise can cause constipation.

Try taking 2 sennakot daily, its a gentle laxative. Or flax seeds on cereals. :-)

@A MyFibroTeam Member Researchers think that the testosterone in men actually protects them from getting Fibro I thought that was interesting. Hormonal changes, such as the decreased amounts of estrogen in the female body, may contribute to symptoms like anxiety, depression, and sleeplessness in fibromyalgia patients. Research shows, however, that estrogen and progesterone replacement therapy is not that beneficial to fibromyalgia sufferers. There are mild benefits reported when using the estrogen patches rather than the estrogen pills. Some studies indicate that the low thyroid function and decreased levels of thyroid hormones, as well as estrogen and progesterone hormones, may contribute to muscular pain, fatigue, mood changes, and anxiety. At the present time, the correlation between menopause and fibromyalgia is uncertain, due to the lack of research on the subject.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Constipation, loss of control of the bowels, and diarrhea are among the bowel problems that can occur in MS (.pdf). ... decreased or slowed “motility” (movement of food through the intestinal tract). Certain medications, such as antidepressants or drugs used to control bladder symptoms, might also cause constipation.
