My Aunt posted this article today about the damaging effects of taking Omeprazole (Protonics) for GERD (Gastro-esophogeal Reflux Disease - the lifelong disease, not just acid reflux). http://nativestuff.us/2017/07/maximum-spread-om...
According to this article Omeprazole is damaging to the central nervous system, depletes B-12 and basically is not good for some of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, like depression, etc... I have been taking this for over a year for my GERD! Time to see my Gastro⦠read more
I tried them years ago and had some reactions including tongue π
swelling. I was also told that no one should be on these long term. Google side effects.
I'm better when I eat smaller meals, use probiotics(GI dr even recommended them), drink water and stay away from caffeine. I eat apples and use apple cider vinegar which help. Oh also make sure you are chewing your food really good. Good luck!
@A MyFibroTeam Member I do take a multi vitamin; Centrum silver, for women over 50. I also take Vit. D-3, Vit. E and Biotin. I try to stay healthy, but it sure sounds like taking the Omeprazole is not good for fibro symptoms... it just concerns me, darn meds! Can't live with 'em & can't live without 'em! π Thanks for your input. Hugs! π
I was told about a year ago that they no longer recommend long term use of proton pump inhibitors. They both can cause problems with stomachs ulcers, bone thinning, cancers. I rarely take Omeprazole. Weight loss, smaller meals, and probiotics are what I am trying now.
my husband has dealt with this for over 20 years.....i made him capsules with my Young Living therapeutic essential oils....No More Protonics, Nexium, etc......i love my Young Living oils.....i also make my own pain capsules & rollers using my YL oils.....no more drugs for me.....i feel better than i have in a long time
I've been taking Omeprazol for about 3months as a stomach protector. I was advised to take it once a day because I have to take 2x Naproxen which is damaging to the stomach lining. I have noticed a lot of hair loss recently. Had a blood test last week so I'll be interested to find out my B12 and iron levels next week when I see my GP.
Thank you for posting this Susan. I don't like swallowing pills!
