Members overwhelmingly confirmed that fibromyalgia significantly worsened their menstrual pain and flow, with many describing periods that became unbearably heavy, lasted weeks at a time, or brought debilitating pain in the back, legs, hips, and stomach that no medication could touch. Several members found relief through hysterectomies (often in their 20s or 30s due to fibroids or endometriosis), while others managed symptoms with the Mirena coil, hormone treatments, tranexamic acid for clotting, heat pads, or herbal supplements like Vitex, though experiences with treatments varied widely and some worsened symptoms. A recurring theme was the cruel monthly pattern of fibro flares intensifying just before and during menstruation, leaving many feeling well for only one week out of four and highlighting how hormonal cycles and chronic pain are deeply intertwined.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. Love you name😍as far as periods go, back in the day I had cramps that completely circled my waist and squeezed hard. Heavy but 3 day flow. PMS symptoms were severe. Now, my daughter has severe PMS and used Vitex a plant extract and no more screaming at every little problem or me haha. Decreased cramps too. She would be bedridden for 2 to 3 days, with a hot water bottle, Vicodin and her teddy bear. Now, we go out and have fun.
I take Vitex for menopause and helps regulate hormones. Also, Valerian root kicks my anxiety to the curb Yahoo. Used to go into a severe panic attacks, crying and shaking.
.Disclaimer: I am giving my opinion and am not a medical doctor or holistic health practioner. I am simply a gieunea pig, sampling herbs to see if they work for me.
Love, Peace, big hugs and happiness

I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 33. Oh my best decision I had ever made. I don't miss my little friend a bit!

The days when i had periods i would feel well one week in four if i was lucky, i had my two daughters in 1974 and 1976 . By my early 30s i had problems with fibroids so i was given a full hysterectomy. My body after that still even after all these years is governed with the ghost of a monthly cycle, when i got to the menopause i had to go through the hot sweats and feeling unwell. Went on hormone replacement tablets for a while, to control it. Wouldnt want to have done anything differently now though xx
