I've had fibromyalgia for many years now. More than I care to admit. The older I get the worse it gets. The pain and exhaustion is unrelenting. Now I find myself with a new symptom which is hyperesthesia. My skin is so sensitive to everything that touches it that some days I want to scream. My clothes hurt, the bed hurts, the chair hurts, and if someone touches me the pain is excruciating. Before I talk to the doctor about it, I would like to know if anyone else experienced this. What do you do… read more

Members connected deeply over the painful reality of hyperesthesia with fibromyalgia, describing how even the gentlest touch from clothing, bed sheets, a breeze, or shower water can feel unbearable, with some comparing wrinkles in sheets to blades and grains of sand to rocks. Several members shared practical strategies that have brought relief, including wearing loose or silky fabrics like biking shorts, using fleece blankets, installing soft rain shower heads, purchasing bed cages or gel toppers, and pulling fitted sheets as tight as possible to eliminate wrinkles. A recurring theme was the validation and comfort of realizing they are not alone in this struggle, as many described the same hypersensitivity and the frustration of finding few medical solutions beyond pain medication.

I can't stand the wrinkles either and if a grain of sand gets in my bed somehow I feel like it is a rock. My pajamas started feeling like they had sandspurs in them so I got some of the nylon, silky feeling ones and they are better. I can't stand anything lacy though and I can't stand underwear that has seams in the crotch. Wait until you try to find that. It is a nightmare. I really have to be careful what I wear or I am terribly miserable. Hope no one has this problem.

Bed wrinkles just drive me nuts. Nightgowns and pajamas are out. I swear my naked skin would hurt. I finally went to the store and I got what they call biking shorts that go under skirts. Theyre skin tight. That and a T-shirt and pull the sheets as tight as I can get and that's the best I can do. Love those biking shorts. I got the ones I like from Kohl's. I got a couple of pair from Walmart and they're all right with their sizing is screwy. 🍫❤️B

Wrinkles feel like blades and any size grit feels like ground glass. Sometimes I get little sores on my thighs from grit. I have gone to sleeping on a flease blanket, softer

Wrinkles in the sheets are the worst!

I don't know why that happens, but it seems to happen to us all. I have found I can't tolerate a wrinkle in my bed at night. I've gone from nighties, to PJs to now wearing what they call dress shorts and a T-shirt for bed. I get those bottom sheets tight. Sometimes it'll take me an hour to get the wrinkles out. I finally gave in and bought a 3 inch thick gel egg crate topper for my bed. Heaven. 🍫❤️B
