Use Of Sedatives And Sleep Spnea
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

1)has anyone been prescribed a sedative to sleep? 2)Does anyone have sleep apnea and use a CPAP? 3)Anyone use both?

Too funny - I just posted this above - Advice from my doc - Magnesium & Zinc 1 hour before bed - works better than melatonin because it triggers your body to make more of it's own melatonin (at least that's what the doctor told me). Knock wood, it has been working for several weeks now! Magnesium 250mg and Zinc 10-15mg.

I was given Ambien for 10 days and I had 10 days of GREAT SLEEP. Then the doctor wouldn't prescribe it anymore due to the sleep apnea, so what the eff was the point of THAT? I used a CPAP machine and couldn't tolerate it. I had extensive surgery for the sleep apnea. Tonsils and adenoids out, deviated septum repaired and soft palette shaved down. I DO NOT recommend having all of this done at the same time. The recovery was VERY DIFFICULT due to my throat going into spasms due to the FIBRO. HOWEVER~I SLEEP LIKE A CHAMP! NO SNORING AT ALL! I hope this helps. Soft hugs dear fighter.

I've been on ambien cr for years now. It's especially for people that can't stay asleep. It's nothing like ambien. Ask your doc about it.

I'm supposed to use a CPAP but haven't been, I hate it! I told my pulmonologist that I saw no difference in my tiredness when I did use it for several months, and now we know why - because I finally got diagnosed with fibromyalgia which of course means sleep issues unrelated to apnea. I wake up with pain and it hurts to turn over, so then I'm really awake. That happens 4-5 times a night. I don't use a sleep aid because I also have kidney dysfunction and I cannot take a lot of medications, but a couple of times a month I'll get so miserably tired that I cannot settle down and get to sleep at all, and I take a low-dose temazepam. They are highly addictive and related to the development of Parkinson's so I hardly use it at all, maybe 30 in a year.
Mostly I just ignore the fact that I can't sleep good at night, I sit up and play on my phone or pet the cat for a while until I get sleepy again, and I take a few naps during the day as needed.
(I promised my pulmonologist I'd try the CPAP again, too, so I better do that soon!)

I have sleep Apnea and use a Bipap machine and also take 300 MG of Trazodone and 3 MG of Melatonin. I have trouble staying asleep and wake up all night long. I usually get around 4-7 hours sleep but it's all broken up. No I don't feel better in the daytime. I am groggy and want to fall asleep all the time. I rarely feel wide awake anymore. Ambien makes me cook in my sleep and not remember it the next morning. I also eat the food I cook in my sleep. Again without remembering it the next day. Therefore, I can't take any sleep medicine like Ambien. I hope this answers your question. Many hugs.
