How Do You Prepare For Long Distance Trips, If You Are Driving?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am preparing for a week away from home, which means cleaning (was raised not to leave the house in disarray when traveling). I will have to drive, 6 hrs., so that calls for tweaking my meds so by the time to get on the road I won't have much drugs in my system. Majority of my meds makes me very tired, so I usually don't take them when I have to drive somewhere, which is fine for quick trips but for driving 2 or more hours I need something in my system to make the drive comfortable; using… read more

I will stop as needed.. my rationale is I just want to get it over with. Usually at the end of a long trip I am no good for the remainder of the day or next day for that matter, but it's better than flying. I don't know if it's the altitude but I feel horrible after a flight and without fail have a terrible flare up for several days afterwards.

We're driving to Cornwall in June but were doing it over 2 days instead of 1 day! I will be stopping every hour to give myself a stretch and the dogs a toilet break! Couldn't imagine doing 6 hours in one day😮

Every two years we take a family vacation down south. My husband is really good about stopping every 3-4 hrs to let me get out and move around. It is only about a 20 min stop so that we can walk the dogs, kids can go potty, fuel up if need be. It doesn't take all the pain and fatigue away but it does help a lot.

Man I don't know if I could drive 6 hours anymore. If it was me I guess I would drive 1/2 or 3/4 of the way there stay somewhere overnight and continue on BUT I don't think you want to hear that. Could you drive the same amount of time and then maybe pull over in a rest stop and sleep for an hour or so. I would stop as often as possible and get out and move or walk around so you don't get too stiff especially since you won't be taking the meds for pain. Could you cut the pills to stop pain in 1/2 or even less and just take them as you go along? Not sure if that would work but maybe worth a try. Other than that, for me, nice loud music!
