Members enthusiastically embraced the idea of pharmacogenetic testing after learning how it identifies which medications a person's body can properly metabolize, with several sharing that Medicare covered their test 100% and that the process involved only a simple mouth swab with results returned within a week. Many members expressed frustration that their doctors hadn't suggested this testing despite years of medication trials and adverse reactions, with those who had completed it confirming it validated their experiences of certain drugs not working and significantly improved their treatment outcomes. A recurring theme was empowerment through self-advocacy, with members encouraging each other to tell rather than ask their doctors for the test, research local providers, and contact insurance to verify coverage.

It proved that what I had told my doctors were true about when I said certain medications didn't work, like Vicodin and Hydrocodone! I suffered every side effect for 24 years... Peace of mind is a great feeling!

SMC, my family doctor, he never understood my conditions dealing with pain management. He too, didn't see the light for doing the test. I have had all 3 of my kids ( all adults except 1 who is almost an adult) test done now so they will always have to take to Dr appts when meds are often prescribed. My daughter I hope will have my grandsons done, but he is only 3 now. Hope this helps! Like I said, don't ask, as asnewerd above they work with you on cost, so that can't be an excuse anymore!, TELL them you want! If you suffer, maybe the meds aren't working, what have you got to lose?

My insurance, Medicare, and they did pay for the test. It was a simple swab of the mouth and the doctor sent the test and results were sent to me in less than a week. I hope well wishes and prayers for all. God Bless.. MW
