Members connected over shared concerns about memory loss with fibromyalgia, with many describing forgetting conversations minutes later, losing words mid-sentence, getting lost while driving, and needing notes everywhere to function daily. Several members found that specific medications like Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Xanax significantly worsened their memory problems, while others shared that pain levels directly impact cognitive function, with one neuropsychologist explaining that severe pain prevents the brain from processing and storing new information. A recurring theme was finding practical coping strategies like keeping notebooks, using digital reminders, doing word games, and giving themselves grace while remembering that fibro fog is real and they are not alone in this frustrating struggle.

I read a lot and do word games and I try not to over task my brain on days I am in a lot of pain. I think we just need to keep our brains busy so that we don't lose them. Hugs and prayer for everyone in pain!!!!

What medications are you on? Some meds like xanax are absolutely terrible for memory and over time destroys it, if I were you I'd research the meds you're on and see if they can affect it, those combined with fibro fog makes you feel like you have dementia!

My memory was so bad at one point that my doctor sent me to a neuropsychologist. After months of testing he determined that I had real memory loss but said it was because I was in so much pain that my brain couldn't process the things I needed to remember and deal with the pain at the same time. Fortunately a new medication lowered the level of pain so my memory is somewhat better now but I still need to write anything important down. I have my doctors write down all instructions because I never know what I will remember. I also keep a notebook on my table where I write down the things that I need to do so I don't forget to do them. I've found a notebook is better then just a pad of paper because I can refer back to it if I need to know when I did something.
