What Does Anyone Think Of The Spoon Theory?

I have come across a discussion on Facebook about the Spoon Theory - whereby each spoon is equivalent to a unit of energy whether mental or physical. The person who came up with idea (heavily copyrighted but you can read about it https://butyoudontlooksick.com/.../writ.../the-...). People use it as a way to explain why they are ill - or have limited energy. Basically each day you have a handful of spoons - the number vary on how you feel when you wake up, then each task, or mental preparation to… read more

Just don't fall into the trap of letting the concept limit you. Some days you will be able to do more, feel better in the afternoon than you did that morning. Don't miss out on stuff you can and want cuz you think you have no spoobs left! And sometimes, its worth pushing yourself, and taking a rest day after. :)

I know! spoons are not predictable.... My husband quite likes it and told me to stay in bed this morning and acquire some more spoons! I had a fibro night and was awake till gone 4am.. and just dozing after that. I totally agree that sometimes you may be able to push past the fatigue and make it up later but still sometimes you can't.

Yes I think it a good way of understanding and explaining your energy levels. I use it in my mind to cope with everyday challenges. It also is a good way to get others to understand you have limits with your activities. Even though it sounds a bit cheesy it works for me.

I love it. I use it to explain to my family why I can do some things, and not others, and how I have to think ahead.
It's a great way to explain it to people who dont have a chronic illness.
