Members responded to a question about whether they had taken antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications before their fibromyalgia diagnosis, with answers spanning the full spectrum from never having taken them to being on medication for decades beforehand. Several members shared experiences of medications like Effexor, Citalopram, Zoloft, and Klonopin either masking fibro pain or being tried after diagnosis with mixed results, including one member who believes their fibro was hidden for years by antidepressants until they stopped taking them. A recurring theme was the complex relationship between mental health medications, life stressors, hormonal changes like menopause, and the eventual emergence or diagnosis of fibromyalgia, with many members now navigating whether to continue, change, or discontinue these medications.

Yes i had been on a few (at different times) for about 10 years including Citalapram and Effexor...when I came off of the Effexor the pain showed up and was eventually diagnosed with Fibro...They think I had it for 5 years but the meds were masking the pain. However when I tried to go back on them in the hope the pain would go again, I had horrible side effects so had to come off it again. 😕
