I ended my relationship of 3 and a half years today..I was feeling like he was judging me bc of my fibromyalgia. He judges instead of learning and reading up on fibro..I'm tired of explaining my illness. This past 6 months I have had to stop working except for 1 day per week. He cannot understand why and the daily pain, migraines and every other ailment that we get with fibro. I hate this and feel like it's cost me my relationship, my job, my independents,,,, has this happened to anyone… read more

Members shared their own painful experiences of losing relationships and family connections due to fibromyalgia, with several describing partners and relatives who couldn't grasp the reality of an invisible illness no matter how many times it was explained. Many emphasized that true partnership requires willingness to learn and support through chronic illness, encouraging the original poster to seek someone with a bigger heart who will educate themselves and stand by her side. A recurring theme was that fibromyalgia often reveals who truly understands unconditional love, and while the loss is deeply painful, those who refuse to learn or support ultimately show they aren't the right fit for the journey ahead.

I am sorry u are going thru this. It is very hard having this condition, let alone being in a relationship where your partner isn't understanding what u are going thru.
I am grateful that my husband does understand. I believe if u are in a relationship or marriage, u need to become educated about the issues that your partner is going thru. It isn't always easy but that is what a commitment is.

We understand.
This is a crappy disease.
I hate it. However we also have to try to find whatever joy we can find. I am still learning to be grateful even when in pain. It is hard to do. It is a continual practice.

So sorry for you. But if he was unwilling to educate himself and do what he could to help you, you are better off. We with Fibro need a good support group, and it begins at home. My family is great, co-worker too. They all help me out as much as possible. Hang in there, Mr. Right will come along.

Unfortunately yes, I too have had to try to explain over & over. One day spouse was caring & understanding the nest day can't understand anything why I couldn't do things. I was married for 25 years. I think maybe a counselor would help before it gets worse. My parents don't understand & I don't have much of a relationship with them either anymore. I know how hurtful it feels. I wish you luck & will send you prayers.

There are a lot of people with a lot of different diseases. It may be hard for others to understand an illness when they can't see anything wrong, like someone with braces and crutches you can see their problem. You need to find someone with a big heart. Watch what they do around others to give you an idea of their personality.
