I am thinking of asking my gp doctor for a referral to a pain management specialist but not sure if they really help. I have heard they really push the iv steroid injections in the spine and I don't want to go that route. Do they offer stronger pain meds or other treatments

Going to a pain specialist at the pain clinic was the best thing I ever did.
@A MyFibroTeam Member Oh glad the cortisone helped you. It was disastrous for me, triggering a massive fibro flare for 3 months, plus other problems and made the pain worse. Guess we're all different.
I was referred to one, very sympathetic man but he just referred me to a physio who inturn inflicted extreme pain. This is just my experience, every doctor is different. Some good others not so much, best to judge from your own experience with a consultation. He may be able to help you. ☺
I would discuss this with your GP first and then if you do get a referral I would ask that the first appointment be a consultation where you can discuss your concerns. If you are not happy then I wouldn't go through with the injections or else try one and see what happens. I tried the injections in my back but they couldn't get into the area so they had to give up and I had surgery.
@Dawnie167- hi, I have them done at the surgery center with anesthesia because it can take up to 10 minutes with the types of injections. Maybe that can be done for you too so you don't suffer🌹
