Does Anyone Experience Breathing Problems With Fibro?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have had respiratory issues most of my life. in the last 6-9 months I am getting worse, very short of breath with everyday activity. I am on maximum breathing medications and steroids. Getting re-worked up but so far heart seems not to be the issue. Would love to hear others experiences, treatments, etc.... thanks Lori

They keep telling me I have autoimmune but nothing has come back positive. I do have a wheat allergy, which could be celiac which is one of autoimmune diseases they think I have. Only try way I heard of testing is a biopsy. I would rather just be gluten free. But I can tell you since I was a child, I had aches and pains, always thirsty, urinated a lot, would be hungry and then couldn't eat. Plus almost anything that touched my skin I had a rash. It all seemed to lay dormant until my mom was sick and got worse when she passed. I had one other attack while under lots of stress in nursing school. The only sport I would play was softball because I couldn't run fast because I felt like I couldn't breathe.

All I say though is nothing will keep me down. I 3 years cancer free, had to have double mastectomy 2 years ago because I could no longer be screened; allergic to all IV dyes. So fibromyalgia will not beat me. I'll make the most out of every day I can even if it's only for 15 minutes. I will push my self close to my limit but never past. Fibro tries to take control of our bodies, but we need to find the tricks that can work around that control. I have a great deal of faith and determination not to let anything keep me down, but if I feel my body needs a break I will lay on the couch and make the most out of that. I love watching old movies and needing a body rest gives me an excuse to lay on couch and watch old movies. Hang in there and it will get better.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, you sound a lot like me, I have an immune deficiency which I need to do a weekly infusion. I'm on symbicort, spirits and albuteril 4-6 times a day

I was having issues with extremely low heart rates in 30s and shortness of breath. They blamed it on inflammation of my sternum which is cartilage and soft tissue. It was very frightening and my breathing was awful. I cannot remember what they gave me to help with sternum pain but I did oral steroids and two inhalers. Symbicort twice a day and Pro air every 6 hours. I also had feeling of lump in my throats which found out one of my muscles did not relax after swallowing phase. So I had pantpropazile and Zantac, but eventually had throat ballooned to stretch the muscle. I had doctors who listened to my issues about fibro, and they related some to symptoms of autoimmune diseases. I only have fibro but they tried things that worked on women with autoimmune issues, and I got great help and my breathing and pain is gone. I've been through a lot, I won't stop fighting, and I will not leave a doctors office until all my questions are answered. Write a plan of what you want addressed with a list of questions, and get them answered. I went for years being told I was sick cause I was obese and a woman, than they added that I was in my 40s. I was diagnosed in 3009 with fibromyalgia but kept complaining of frequent urination issues/problems. Finally got a doctor to listen to me and in 2013 I had high grade invasive bladder cancer. Luckily caught early enough and young enough to get a new bladder. Good luck stay strong.
