My sleep is the most important part of my self care plan. I have a little leeway with my sleep meds. It helps that I am retired because I can sleep later if I need to. I make appointments for afternoon. I use my heating pad frequently during the day since I'm able to stop activities that hurt.

BUT, I worked full time with pain for a longtime. I worked 12 hour shifts with high physical and mental demands. My youngest was 10 and the other 13. Since I worked 13 hour shifts I only worked 3 days week with 3 weekdays off. I was exhausted all the time and rested much of my days off. It took a couple of years for my dr. to talk me into taking antidepressants for sleep. That eased some of the pain along with better sleep. But good sleep wasn't always there.

In spite of some improvement I had to change to a much less demanding job after 5 years. It meant I wasn't beating myself up physically on a regular basis. I walked and did aerobics 4-5 days a week. The conditioning helped reduce my pain. Short naps never did me much good. Once you 'find' good sleep you still have to work at it. Sometimes a higher dose of med is needed. Sometimes I need a 'drug holiday' for awhile when your med becomes less effective. My dr prescribes a different med.

I would encourage you to try get 'restorative' sleep. Discuss your sleep patterns to make a new sleep plan. Google sleep hygiene. There are many helpful tips. If you are already doing these things you need to talk to your dr. or find a pain specialist. Wishing you success.

@A MyFibroTeam Member have you had your thyroid checked? The other thing that caused me to not sleep at night in addition to thyroid issues was depression. There are screening tools online.

I agree caffine, caffine, caffine! I work 13hr shifts and I cant get through without it.

Im aware its probably perpetuating the fatigie but some days I just have to find a way to manage. I dont have caffine after 2pm.

Im recently trying out herbal teas with caffine as I am concentrating on increasing nutrition throughout the day so will let you know how it goes.

A good diet is important to get rid of the sluggish feeling that comes with being bloated.

Fresh air and light activity - the old remedies still work!

Also I know sleep is hard for us and worse when you have children and job responsibilities, but sometimes a good few days in bed works wonders.

I also try to view things differently. So work becomes socialisation with my friends. I get the family involved in my therapy so they join in with my tai chi workouts and walks. Meeting friends i always fit in a meal so i can eat well without cooking. singing with the children becomes music therapy. Pj and film days are a must at mine!

Hope this gives you some ideas x

I drink coffee because idk what to do about it and sometimes I just fall asleep around 3pm for a couple hours and that helps, but this is no kind of life. I find it hard to do things during the day and take my meds that make the fatigue even worse. I stay awake late at night. My body is totally confused. I feel like I'm fighting to stay awake all day and then fighting to sleep all night, might as well be on the opposite side of the world. Nah, that wouldn't help either lol. ;) Jk. Good question, I don't have any answers. Thankfully we have a whole team of people here to help! Thanks all! Hugs
