This is my first question on this site. I know it may seem an odd first question, but how do you date with fibro? How do you overcome the empathy card, the anxiety, the dietary restrictions to control the inflammation when dating?

It's a very tricky thing. I somehow by the grave of God managed to find an amazing man who loves me and is so supportive. I found it to be easier and less a heartache to bring it up early in the relationship and educate that person as best you can. But it is hard, it's sad to realize that with this illness we will now have to always overcome this hurdles with new friendships and relationships but there are people who are worth it, I pray you find one ๐Ÿ’œ

I've been with my partner for nearly 2 years.. I told him from the beginning as we spent the night getting to know each other. I guess I'm lucky that he's very understanding, helps me shower on bad days, cooks, etc.. He's still not 100% of how bad fibro can be but each step I share with him.. so far so good... Just be who you are. You don't have to share all the ins and outs, the first thing is to let them know you have a chronic illness... It's entirely up to you of course, go with your flow. . Wishing you the very best xx

I'm really loathe to even try tbh but then I can't stand rejection... it just reinforces what I already know; at this point, and as things are going to stay, I'm just not good enough for all that is likeable about me.
I don't just have Fibro and all the issues that entails but have a very low income and no assets too boot... and there are certain standards and expectations made in the dating/relationship game of which I think higher ones are demanded of guys. I did win once, had a relationship with another who had Fibro but the other issues and my extreme frustration and despair knowing they would take a toll killed that relationship dead. I don't believe I'll be so lucky again.
It's not like I haven't tried over the years, even with a low confidence level... and have partial success, a foot in the door if you like but either illness or having no home of my own, car or free and easy cash flow... or a combination of those scupper my chances. It's frustrating because my expectations in return are usually very low, I take what I can get... don't think of that as me going begging though... I just realise that peoples issues (financial, healthwise etc) are just those, they don't mould, change or make that person lesser, and were around and coped with before I showed up... and so I treat such trifles as exactly that, things to fix, work around or if necessary, ignore. I approach dating and relationships very open to whatever may come. Unfortunately not many folks do. There are conditions, often very strict ones, in everything.
I had a conversation going a few days back on another forum where some guy in similar straits was wondering where he went wrong. He got advice from a bunch of healthy guys... you know the type, MGTOW/Dudebro's and such... no worries 'norms' basically... the kind of guys with perfect health, bodies and wealth who likely pick up and drop more than willing women with ease. They told him that being lesser he has to lessen any expectations accordingly and that's just how it is. Social Darwinism was mentioned... it figures out, makes sense as much as I don't like it and wish it didn't but there you go.
Sorry for the gloom... I guess confidence plays a part and having something to bring to the game does the rest but I unsurprisingly have neither, one feeds off the other and vice versa and I'm very self conscious that I'm batting from the bottom of a well.

well first of all you do not need to tell them anything until you know if you really like the person and not that you like him on the first date ! and then you can tell him look i i am not looking for empathy or sympathy just maybe a little understanding of what you go threw ! and that there is nothing in this world he could do for you except maybe run you some bath water and a kind and loving hug ! hope in some ways this may help you ! love always michele
